A simple road cut exposes the layers fossils that have been locked in for 350 million years.

The best places to collect fossils around the twin cities are in Ramsey, Dakota, and Goodhue counties. Most rocks in this region formed from sediments deposited in shallow seas that covered the area about 505 to 438 million years ago, in what is known as the Octavian Period. Almost twice as old as dinosaurs!!

Check out the great fossil finds we found! Bryozoans, pelecypods, gastropods, crinoids, and a trilobite head, all in a bit over a hour. These are treasures to keep for a life time!
